Network Ten reporter Rebeka Powell was shoved to the ground by police during chaotic scenes at an anti-immigration rally in Melbourne. <\/p>\n
Video taken by Ms Powell showed police in headgear standing between protesters and counter protesters at a March for Australia rally that led to several arrests in the CBD on Sunday. <\/p>\n
As officers shouted \u201cmove\u201d, and \u201cget back\u201d, the reporter found herself sandwiched between the protesters and a line of police.<\/p>\n
Ms Powell, who attended the event with a photographer and a security guard, could then be seen running down the street alongside police in the chaos. <\/p>\n
She later filmed protesters being arrested on the pavement while an officer yelled \u201cget back\u201d, appearing to shove the journalist to the ground.<\/p>\n
Sharing the footage online, Ms Powell pointed out that she was a \u201c5\u20191 mainstream media journo\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m fine guys,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll part of the job, too close at the wrong time it appears. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe main lesson is I really didn\u2019t need to do pilates before work this morning.\u201d <\/p>\n
Commentators were supportive, with one Aussie writing, \u201cThanks for your reporting Rebecca and I\u2019m glad you\u2019re okay. You are very fit and brave\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAverage day in Melbourne,\u201d another quipped.<\/p>\n
Right-wing influencer Hugo Lennon, who is known as Auspill online, reportedly led the Melbourne rally to chants of \u201cAussie, Aussie, Aussie\u201d.<\/p>\n
The group booed when One Nation leader Pauline Hanson\u2019s name was mentioned; Mr Lennon explained said she had declined an invitation to take part.<\/p>\n
Later, attendees could be heard chanting \u201cPauline, Pauline, where the f*** is Pauline?\u201d as they marched through the central city. <\/p>\n
The vast majority of protesters and counter-protesters were peaceful but three people were arrested for allegedly assaulting and resisting officers, police told AAP.<\/p>\n
Two others were processed by police for offensive behaviour and were expected to be charged on summons.<\/p>\n
Marches also took place in Brisbane and Sydney, where NSW MP Mark Latham called for an end to \u201call the Chris Minns hate speech laws\u201d.<\/p>\n

The rallies unfolded as Anthony Albanese told Labor delegates in Queensland that \u201cwe owe it to history\u201d to defeat right-wing populist parties like One Nation<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAcross the world, hard-right populists are on the march,\u201d Mr Albanese said in Brisbane. <\/p>\n \u201cPeddling politics that is dangerous, divisive, and downright dishonest. We simply must defeat them. We owe it to history.\u201d<\/p>\n Senator Hanson returned fire <\/a>over the Prime Minister\u2019s claim that One Nation was \u201cdangerous,\u201d accusing him of inciting political violence.<\/p>\n A day earlier, One Nation had won the Secret Harbour seat from Labor in Western Australia<\/a>, reinforcing its growing threat to the Australian political landscape.<\/p>\n The March for Australia protests began late last year, promoted online as peaceful gatherings for average Australians opposed to high immigration rates.<\/p>\n But critics say that neo-Nazi and white nationalist groups often organise or participate in the events, which result in clashes with counter protesters and police. <\/p>\n Read related
