href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/brisbane\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brisbane<\/a> <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/olympics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Olympics<\/a> and <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/paralympics?page=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Paralympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The funding will be spread across a four-year period to support athletes and officials from 13 Pacific countries to access high-performance training and qualification opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The deal is a partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia and regional organisations. &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Pacific athletes and officials will also be supported for the Tahiti 2027 Pacific Games, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Rarotonga 2029 Pacific Mini Games and other international sporting events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Australia\u2019s Prime Minister, who arrived in the small Micronesian nation of Palau on Monday for the <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/drama-unfolds-at-pacific-islands-forum-before-anthony-albanese-arrives-c-22797989\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pacific Islands Forum<\/a>, said \u201cthe Pacific is home to incredible sporting talent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThis new partnership will contribute to producing the next generation of successful become a key policy tool for Australia in the Pacific. &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It\u2019s an incentive that Canberra can offer nations, as the strategic battle in the region heats up. &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The Albanese Government has previously announced <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/rugby-league\/nrl-set-to-unveil-png-expansion-team-ahead-of-2028-arrival-c-17056272\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$600 million for rugby league in Papua New Guinea<\/a> including support for an <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/rugby-league?page=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NRL<\/a> team from 2028, and a <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/rugby-league\/major-250m-pacific-rugby-league-agreement-announced-hours-before-state-of-origin-c-22550281\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$250 million fund to support rugby league in PNG, Tonga, Samoa and Fiji<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Minister for the Pacific Pat Conroy says \u201csport has a unique power to bring people together\u201d. &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt support healthy lives, gender equity and youth leadership,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThis is an investment in the development of athletes across the Pacific. I look forward to seeing many successful Pacific athletes at the upcoming Paralympics, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.\u201d&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Summit under siege&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The Pacific Islands Forum has encountered setbacks in 2026 after a number of leaders decided not to attend, including the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Samoa and New Caledonia.
