(ABC News: Christopher Gillette)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">General manager of RiverCity Ferries Paul Rigby said the union was planning to &#8220;spoil the party&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Riverfire is one of the biggest nights on the Brisbane calendar, a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate along the waterway that shapes and serves the city,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The unions should stop this selfish and unnecessary disruption to what should be a day of celebration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Rigby called on the union to scrap the planned action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We value our hard-working staff and have worked to put a strong offer on the table for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;But unions are planning to spoil the party and disrupt the plans of tens of thousands of travellers for the sake of their protracted and unreasonable industrial campaign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;An absolute disgrace&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">MUA organiser Jaiden Simpson said the union acknowledged council&#8217;s concerns about the timing but denied council allegations it was trying to &#8220;ruin&#8221; Riverfire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We would deny that wholeheartedly, and in fact I would say that RiverCity Ferries haven&#8217;t meaningfully engaged with the unions or the delegates or their workforce for the past 17 meetings,&#8221; Mr Simpson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said the union had a range of concerns that had not been addressed by the operator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Fatigue management, work-life balance, meal break provisions, obviously salary and superannuation are to be addressed, but a range of other conditions RiverCity Ferries has chosen not to address at all,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man in a black union polo shirt standing in front of river and looking into camera.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/124742835b315e75992807e5bcfac91a.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jaiden Simpson says RiverCity Ferries proposed an offer to workers that wasn&#8217;t endorsed by the MUA.
