A trio of breakfast show hosts on Melbourne’s The Fox 101.9 radio station are under fire for accusing shark attack victim Leah Stewart of putting “a lot of mayo” on her heroic tale of survival.<\/p>\n

Sydney mother Stewart, 34, was swimming at Coogee Beach in June when she was attacked by a four-metre great white shark, suffering catastrophic injuries that ultimately resulted in the amputation of her left arm.<\/p>\n

Speaking with 60 Minutes this week, Ms Stewart revealed new details of the attack<\/a>, including the moment she came face-to-face with the shark and the desperate fight that followed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will never forget its face,” Ms Stewart said during the Nine interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was huge and its teeth and its mouth was massive and its eyes, it\u2019s just black little beady eyes, we were just looking face to face,” she continued.<\/p>\n

However breakfast radio hosts Kate Langbroek, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody suggested Ms Stewart was embellishing details of the attack when discussing it on their Tuesday show.<\/p>\n

“I’ve never been in this position and I wouldn’t understand what would go on, but if a shark was attacking you, you wouldn’t have much time to think,” Fevola said.<\/p>\n

“No, most people say you don’t even know what’s happening,” agreed co-host Langbroek.<\/p>\n

The trio then discussed a portion of the interview in which Ms Stewart said she punched the shark with her left arm because it was the limb she was more “willing to lose”.<\/p>\n

“I was on the couch with my wife going, ‘She’s lying! Too much time to think!’ You’re not thinking all that are you?” Fevola said.<\/p>\n

“Come on, oh right or left? Like bro, you are amazing – you punched a shark in the face and survived – but you’re not thinking all that,” he added.<\/p>\n

“That’s a lot of mayo.”<\/p>\n

Online commentary was quick to condemn the radio hosts.<\/p>\n

“Bit harsh Fev , she knew the shark was there for over a minute before it attacked her , i dont think Fev listened to the whole story,” wrote one listener on the show’s Facebook page.<\/p>\n

“”Wow, sounds like Fev is a bit jealous of the attention this incredibly brave woman has been receiving,” added another listener.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere online, more pointed criticism rolled in for the hosts.<\/p>\n

“Bullying a survivor of a shark attack? Yeah – sounds about the level of classy behaviour we expect from radio hosts,” wrote one enraged online user.<\/p>\n

“Glass Houses – to three radio hosts – walk a mile in her shoes each of you. Shame on you all. People hand[le] extreme trauma differently,” seethed another.<\/p>\n

“Wow how cruel and entitled of them. Imagine sitting in your designer lounge accusing a shark attack victim who literally lost her arm of lying. Talk about tone deaf,” yet another wrote.<\/p>\n

However one seemed to agree with the hosts, writing: “The shark attack victim did have a weird inflated opinion of herself in that interview.”<\/p>\n

News24.com.au have reached out to the radio station’s owners Southern Cross Ausstereo for comment.<\/p>\n

The attack left Ms Stewart with\u00a0devastating injuries to both arms and her left leg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She was pulled from the water by world champion paddleboarder Charlie Verco, before being treated on the beach by surf lifesaver Ben Heenan and frontline trauma specialist Dr Ian Ferguson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Ms Stweart having lost a significant amount of blood, doctors struggled to establish conventional intravenous access.<\/p>\n

Dr Ferguson used an emergency procedure to deliver fluids and blood directly to bone marrow in her shoulders.<\/p>\n

She was then rushed to St Vincent\u2019s Hospital in a critical condition where a team of surgeons worked to save her life.<\/p>\n
