Kate Eddy\u2019s messy split with the Melbourne Vixens has taken a twist with the defender receiving a Super Netball lifeline from cross-town rivals the Mavericks.<\/a><\/p>\n

Eddy will seek to re-launch her career as a training partner at the Mavericks in a \u201cnew chapter\u201d for the 29-year-old after seven years with the Vixens.<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the biggest talking points of the Super Netball contracting period, Eddy was left without a spot on the Vixens\u2019 list for next season after what the wing defence described as a \u201cbreakdown in communication\u201d.<\/p>\n

Eddy\u2019s manager Anthony Panozzo hit out at the Vixens for pulling their contract offer late, leaving her no time to find a spot at another club. <\/p>\n

But the Vixens explained they had wanted to retain Eddy, but they had been unable to reach an agreement with her management in the required time frame.<\/p>\n

A fan favourite among the Vixens\u2019 faithful, the controversial loss of Eddy amid a wider list shake-up at the Vixens sparked widespread backlash among fans.<\/p>\n

Now, the Mavericks have swooped to offer Eddy \u2013 a two time premiership winner with the Vixens \u2013 a spot as a training partner for 2027.<\/p>\n

Eddy said she was grateful for the opportunity to start a fresh chapter at the Mavs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to be joining the Mavs and beginning a new chapter in my netball career,\u201d Eddy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m incredibly thankful for the opportunity the club has given me and I\u2019m looking forward to being part of what is already a really exciting journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mavs achieved some incredible things last season and it\u2019s clear there is a strong culture, ambition and belief within the group. I\u2019m excited to get to work with my new teammates and contribute however I can.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always admired the way the club has gone about building its identity and I\u2019m grateful for the chance to become part of that story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarded as one of the league\u2019s premier wing defences, Eddy was part of the Vixens\u2019 title winning teams in 2020 and 2025.<\/p>\n

She has featured the past three Super Netball grand finals with the Vixens.<\/p>\n

Mavericks coach Gerard Murphy said the club had no hesitation bringing Eddy into the club\u2019s fold as a training partner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re extremely fortunate to have someone of Kate\u2019s calibre joining our squad,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is one of the competition\u2019s premier defenders and has consistently performed at an elite level for a long period of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cKate brings invaluable experience from some of the most successful programs in the league, but just as importantly she brings outstanding leadership, professionalism and a genuine team-first approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you look at the impact she\u2019s had across more than 120 Super Netball matches, multiple premierships and numerous grand finals, it\u2019s clear the quality of person and player we\u2019re bringing into our environment.<\/p>\n
