{"id":86199,"date":"2026-09-02T15:18:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/86199\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T15:18:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:18:28","slug":"hanson-tells-parents-to-confront-principals-over-left-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/86199\/","title":{"rendered":"Hanson tells parents to confront principals over \u2018left\u2019 teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has encouraged parents to \u201cconfront the principal and drag your kids out of school\u201d over fears children are being \u201cbrainwashed\u201d by \u201cleft-leaning teachers\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The comments follow previous remarks by the senator that educators are indoctrinating pupils with Marxism, grooming them into believing they can \u201cbe a boy one day and a girl the next\u201d and recruiting them as social justice warriors. <\/p>\n<p>But teachers have rubbished Senator Hanson\u2019s claims, saying they are \u201cdivisive\u201d and incite violence.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hanson made the remarks at a community firearms event in Dubbo on August 15.<\/p>\n<p>Teacher union members from the Victorian Trades Hall Council were among the first to hit back, saying they were simply \u201cthere to educate kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Education Union president Correna Haythorpe said the comments were unfounded and showed a \u201cfundamental misunderstanding of how the Australian curriculum is delivered\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor any politician to urge parents to go into schools and confront teachers and principals undermines the important partnership between parents and their children\u2019s school,\u201d Ms Haythorpe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could place teachers in a dangerous situation where conflict and aggression may be exhibited by parents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One Sydney teacher joked Senator Hanson \u201cwould not be receiving a C (satisfactory) for bipartisanship\u201d and offered mock school report-style feedback: \u201cEnthusiastic, but needs to consider the impact of her actions on others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Brisbane teacher rejected the \u201cleft-wing\u201d accusation, arguing that keeping students safe means keeping them tolerant of others: \u201cthat\u2019s not politics, it\u2019s the law.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A regional Victorian teacher noted that amid teacher shortages \u201cthese comments help no one,\u201d while a regional NSW teacher said if teachers could brainwash students, education would not be in such a sorry state. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPauline would be better off staying in her lane \u2013 or better yet, actually spending some time in a school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Opposition education spokesman Julian Leeser insisted schools are \u201cfor learning, not confrontations\u201d. While there\u2019s room to disagree on curriculum, he said, bringing politics into the classroom is never acceptable. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat One Nation has called for is the wrong way to go about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hanson\u2019s comments come as rates of verbal aggression against teachers escalate. <\/p>\n<p>The situation has become so bad that researchers from La Trobe University have developed a robot that mimics the behaviour of a disgruntled parent, allowing student teachers to practise de-escalating conflict. <\/p>\n<p>Fletch the robot has been programmed to even act as a \u201cKaren\u201d parent threatening to escalate a situation to the principal. Its interactions are based on real life scenarios, including parents fuming about their child\u2019s marks, not being with the right friends on school camp or not getting picked for a drama production. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese conversations can become difficult because they involve emotion, identity and protectiveness on both sides,\u201d lead researcher Therese Keane said. \u201cParents are advocating for their child, while teachers are drawing on their professional knowledge and experience \u2013 and those perspectives don\u2019t always align.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree with Senator Hanson\u2019s claims?
