Sydney Olympics icon Nikki Webster has put her hand up for a role at the Brisbane 2032 Games, 26 years after her star-making appearance at the opening ceremony changed her life.<\/p>\n
Webster made the declaration after surprising music industry heavyweights with an unexpected performance of Strawberry Kisses at BIGSOUND\u2019s Sony & Friends Showcase Party in Fortitude Valley on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The now 39-year-old became one of the defining faces of the Sydney 2000 Olympics when, aged just 13, she performed during the Opening Ceremony before a global television audience.<\/p>\n
With Brisbane now preparing for its own Olympic moment, Webster said she would jump at the chance to be involved again.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be involved in any way with the Brisbane Olympics would be amazing,\u201d Webster said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt completely changed my life for the better, the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and I\u2019m such an Aussie, so to be a part of it here would be amazing.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven if I just get a ticket, I\u2019m fine with that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Webster said she would also love to see her daughter Skylah, 12, involved in Brisbane 2032 after watching her follow in her footsteps as a performer.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe would absolutely love to be involved in any small way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re never going to get that feeling again. It happens once in a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Olympic throwback came as Webster delivered another dose of nostalgia at BIGSOUND, taking to the stage unannounced at the Sony showcase and sending the room into a singalong with Strawberry Kisses.<\/p>\n
The performance comes as both Webster\u2019s signature hit and BIGSOUND celebrate 25 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s huge, isn\u2019t it?\u201d Webster said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI get to celebrate 25 years of the best song in my career and the best moments in my life and BIGSOUND are celebrating the best moments of theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Webster said seeing a room packed with music industry figures singing along was \u201celectrifying\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe audience were crazy. So much energy, so much vibe,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was lovely to see a room full of people singing Strawberry Kisses.\u201d<\/p>\n
And those who missed Tuesday\u2019s surprise will get another chance.<\/p>\n
Webster will take to the BIGSOUND Mall Stage in Fortitude Valley at 3pm on Wednesday, promising more songs, plenty of nostalgia and, naturally, another Strawberry Kisses singalong.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m ready for a bit of a dance, bit of a party,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
