Credit: Nic Ellis\/The West Australian<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">According to the council, the scoreboard is valued for its association with one of WA\u2019s most significant events in the post-World War II period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe Games form part of Western Australians\u2019 social memories of the 1960s and marked the State\u2019s \u2018coming of age\u2019 through hosting a major event on the international stage. Registration will celebrate this significant State story,\u201d the supporting statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Inclusion on the register will not preclude changes to the building but the council would provide advice on any development proposals, including major works to the surrounding apartments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Consultation is open until October 2 via <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/haveyoursay.dplh.wa.gov.au\/perry-lakes-scoreboard\">dplh.wa.gov.au<\/a> before Heritage Minister Simone McGurk makes the final decision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A structure representing WA\u2019s \u201ccoming of age\u201d is earmarked for State heritage protection.
