The Australian PGA Championship\u2019s switch to Sydney has added to New South Welshman Cam Davis\u2019 excitement about returning home for the summer of golf.<\/p>\n
A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, Davis will tee off in both the Australian PGA and the Australian Open this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs an Australian, you always want to come home and play well, and there\u2019s something really special about competing in front of your own fans,\u201d Davis said ahead of the \u201cAussie majors\u201d that are co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and the DP World Tour.<\/p>\n
With the Australian PGA moving to The Lakes from Royal Queensland, Davis has extra incentive to lift the Joe Kirkwood Cup for the first time at the November 26-29 event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always pretty special to come back to Sydney and play in front of friends and family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t won the Australian PGA yet, so it would be pretty special to add my name to that trophy.\u201d<\/p>\n
PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman echoed Davis\u2019 sentiments.<\/p>\n
\u201cCam hasn\u2019t won the Australian PGA yet, and I know how much it would mean to him to do that in November,\u201d Kirkman said.<\/p>\n
A tournament that 31-year-old Davis has won is the Australian Open, and he\u2019s eager to add a second Stonehaven Cup to his collection at Melbourne\u2019s Kingston Heath <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Australian Open has always been a really important tournament to me,\u201d said Davis, who won the event in 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up watching it and dreaming about playing in it, so to actually win it was a pretty special moment in my career.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking back, that week really kickstarted my professional career. It gave me opportunities to play overseas and helped me get on the PGA Tour, so it\u2019s fair to say the Australian Open has played a huge part in where I am today.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really excited to get to Kingston Heath. It\u2019s one of the great golf courses in Australia and one that I\u2019ve always loved playing. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo have the Australian Open there, on the Sandbelt, is going to be pretty special.\u201d<\/p>\n
Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland said Davis\u2019 return would add \u201cfurther quality and pedigree\u201d to a December 3-6 event field that already includes Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Cam Smith, Lucas Herbert, Corey Conners and Josele Ballester.<\/p>\n
\u201cCam is a proven winner at the highest level and having an Australian Open champion coming back to compete at Kingston Heath is fantastic for the championship,\u201d Sutherland said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe knows what it takes to win this title and he knows what it means to Australian golfers and fans.<\/p>\n
