Credit: AAP<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The introduction of <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/qlds-50-cent-public-transport-fares-to-stay-for-at-least-for-four-years-with-lnp-election-promise-c-16060925\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">50-cent public transport fare<\/a>s has brought a surge in passengers onto the network, workers say, increasing workloads and placing greater pressure on crews throughout their shifts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Concerns have also been raised about whether ferry masters are getting adequate breaks, particularly during busy periods and when crews are required to change over vessels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The union says workers are seeking a guaranteed 12-hour break between shifts, protections around heat and inclement weather, and assurances crews will receive their full meal breaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It says those concerns are about more than workplace conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The union argues fatigue management is ultimately a passenger safety issue, with crews responsible for navigating crowded waterways and safely moving thousands of people every day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The union said more than 17 meetings had been held during negotiations, accusing the company of failing to meaningfully address concerns about fatigue and breaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cOnce again, River City Ferries has chosen confrontation over negotiation despite every good faith offer made by the union,\u201d <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/qld\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Queensland<\/a> secretary Aaron Johnston said after the failed talks on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The company has not publicly responded to the union\u2019s latest claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The strike comes at a particularly difficult time for commuters, with Riverfire expected to draw huge crowds into <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/brisbane\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brisbane<\/a>\u2019s CBD and South Bank precincts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Extra buses and trains will be running, with 80 additional train services scheduled across the network and high-frequency bus services operating before and after the fireworks, Translink said. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0a15d05465929ccb1b814c4986aa1c7246c076b9-16x9-x0y268w2856h1607.jpg\" alt=\"Brisbane\u2019s CityCat services will stop during Riverfire as ferry workers take industrial action on Saturday.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"1607\" width=\"2856\"\/>Brisbane\u2019s CityCat services will stop during Riverfire as ferry workers take industrial action on Saturday.
