(AAP Image: Joel Carrett)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Growing up, I never thought I would a professional athlete,&#8221; Anderson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;In that first year I kept thinking this is a one-time thing, I remember at the end of the first season I took so many pictures of the change room, the Gabba and the girls&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-23\/the-interview-playright-suzie-miller-risky-path\/106701766\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">At a crossroad, Suzie Miller took the risky path <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">In 2009, Suzie Miller had a choice between becoming a magistrate in Australia or a residency at the National Theatre in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Since that first season, Anderson has won two premierships, been the AFLW&#8217;s best and fairest and is the AFLW&#8217;s games record holder.<\/p>\n<p>More than just sport<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The play&#8217;s premiere comes in the fourth round of the AFLW&#8217;s 11th season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">After she finished writing the play, Miller attended an under 9s girls game in Sydney where she witnessed young girls playing with their brothers cheering them on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman on stage with the words 'I. (Supplied)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Australian rules football might be the great saviour of that great gender debate because these young boys will see these girls running around as strong competitive players, and they&#8217;ll see them with strong bodies and loud voices,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They won&#8217;t grow up thinking of girls as weak or other or not equal to them, and that&#8217;s what I hope people can take from this play \u2014 everyone should get a fair go&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The play tours around Australia, heading to Canberra, Geelong and Sydney next.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Growing up in Melbourne, Suzie Miller&#8217;s family was footy mad.
