Celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright has been released from a Northern Territory prison after serving five months behind bars.<\/p>\n

Wright was jailed in Darwin last December after being convicted on two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice following a month-long Supreme Court trial.<\/p>\n

He was served a 10-month sentence<\/a>, with the non-parole period of five months expiring today.<\/p>\n

In a post to social media Wright revealed he was not released in time for the birth of his third child with his wife, Kaia Wright.<\/p>\n

“Finally home with my family after one hell of a fight,” the post said.<\/p>\n

“Didn’t quite make the birth of our beautiful boy Sterling but [Kaia] did an incredible job.”<\/p>\n

Appeal yet to progress<\/p>\n

Outside court on the day he was found guilty Wright said he would fight the verdict.<\/p>\n

An appeal notice was filed by his legal team last year<\/a> but has not been progressed.<\/p>\n

The charges related to attempts by Wright to obstruct an investigation into a 2022 helicopter crash in Arnhem Land that killed his friend and Outback Wrangler co-star Chris “Willow” Wilson and seriously injured pilot Sebastian Robinson.<\/p>\n

Wright was not alleged to be responsible for causing the crash itself and no charges were laid over the cause of the accident.<\/p>\n

Of the two charges he was found guilty on, count one related to a lie Wright told police during a recorded interview about how much fuel he thought the chopper had left.<\/p>\n

Count two related to a visit Wright made to the critically injured pilot in the aftermath of the crash, when he asked Mr Robinson to falsify helicopter records.<\/p>\n

The jury failed to reach a verdict on a third count of the same charge.<\/p>\n

Following the jury’s decision, Wright said the outcome was “disappointing” and vowed to “keep moving forward” with an appeal.<\/p>\n
