He is facing four charges.

Another four boys were charged following that incident, including a 13-year-old, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds.

Less than two hours after the Penrith brawl, a 17-year-old’s hand was severed during an alleged assault in Redfern.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested nearby and charged.

Later that night a 17-year-old boy was allegedly threatened at knifepoint in Blacktown by two teenage boys who then stole his silver Audi.

A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year old boy have been charged over that incident.

On Thursday a teenage boy was charged over a string of alleged aggravated break and enters in the inner city and North Sydney in August.

The 17-year-old is facing six charges.

And on Friday, a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl were charged over an alleged stabbing of a 17-year-old girl outside a school in Blacktown.

Opposition police spokesman Anthony Roberts described the spate of violence as “unacceptable”.

“Teenagers carrying machetes, committing armed carjackings or being involved in stabbings is completely unacceptable and cannot become something our community simply learns to live with,” Mr Roberts said.

“People have every right to question what their government is doing to stop it,” he said.

“We have a Police Minister who refuses to admit crime in NSW is out of control, even after a week of shocking gangland violence. Here in NSW, Labor is soft on crime.”

Youth crime expert Associate Professor Garner Clancey, from the University of Sydney, said pre-Covid there had been a decline in crimes committed by teenager but since then “some things have gone awry”.

“(The spate of crimes) put together are concerning, of course, but the explanations are difficult,” he said.

“Are they individual explanations or are they part of some wide commentary on youth culture at the moment? That’s a bit tricky to say.”

Prof Clancey said social media was playing an extraordinary role in not only the way youths viewed crime, but also how it affected their motivation for participating in it.

“The idea you can gain attention outside of your patch is concerning, there’s a little bit of glamorisation of crime at the moment,” he said.

“Crimfluencers, people who have lived a life of crime and are happy to boast about aspects of their activities online, are contributing to that, and that broader cultural dimension is relevant to these discussions.”

A NSW government spokesperson praised police for their swift action to arrest those allegedly involved in the violence.

“These are deeply concerning acts of violence, and the community has every right to expect a strong response,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“The fact police have moved quickly to make arrests and lay charges across these incidents shows NSW Police are doing exactly what the community expects of them, and we back them every step of the way.

“Social media companies have a responsibility to stop their platforms being used to glorify violence and criminal behaviour, particularly when that content is reaching young people.”

Two teens have suffered devastating injuries and 11 are facing serious charges following a spate of violent
