Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who was shot dead in Melbourne’s north last night.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Victoria Drive in Thomastown after reports a man had been shot outside a property about 7:30pm.<\/p>\n

Despite efforts to revive the man, he died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Victoria Police said no arrests had been made and the man was yet to be formally identified.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened near a local soccer club, where junior matches had been played several hours earlier.<\/p>\n

The club’s president said the shooting was “not a good look” but was not related to the club.<\/p>\n

“There were a lot of kids here, we had a couple of hundred kids participating in their last junior event, so lucky there was no-one around,” he told 774 ABC Melbourne.<\/p>\n

He said cleaners were inside the clubhouse when they noticed a group of people gathering where the man had been shot.<\/p>\n

Another man who lives nearby said a group of about 50 people gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting.<\/p>\n

“It rattles you a bit. You never heard of anything like this in the past and now it’s happening in the street behind your house,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’d imagine everyone that was here would still be shaken. The neighbours who live across the road, I can’t imagine what they’d be feeling.”<\/p>\n
