A young Melbourne tradie who was due to be married within weeks has been shot dead in the city\u2019s north, leaving his family shattered by a loss they described as \u201cbeyond words\u201d.<\/p>\n
Daniel Hussein, 22, was shot once in the chest on Victoria Dr in Thomastown shortly after 7.30pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite efforts to revive the man \u2026 he was declared deceased at the scene,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo arrests have been made at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daniel\u2019s father, Taleb, returned to the scene early on Monday morning. <\/p>\n
He told the Herald Sun his son had been with friends at HR Uren Reserve before the shooting. <\/p>\n
He described Daniel as a hardworking plumber who was always on the job and was preparing to get married in just a few weeks.<\/p>\n
In a Facebook tribute, Daniel\u2019s uncle Abdallah Hussein described the family\u2019s grief as overwhelming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pain of losing you is enormous and beyond words,\u201d Mr Hussein wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou were not only my nephew. You were a piece of my heart. A part of my life. A child I helped carry into this world, and someone I thought would be there until the end of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n
A witness who was at the scene described the terrifying moments after the shot rang out.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was there. I had to run and call the police. I saw it all,\u201d the person wrote on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was terrified. I saw him get shot right in front of me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another witness, Annie, who lives across from HR Uren Reserve, told the Herald Sun she heard the gunshot and ran outside, where she found Daniel on the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was traumatic, it was just such a heartbreaking thing to watch,\u201d Annie told the publication.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone was screaming out his name, \u2018Come back to us. We\u2019re all here\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is understood Daniel had been with two friends, who called for an ambulance, before his brother arrived at the scene a short time later.<\/p>\n
Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting were \u201cyet to be determined\u201d, but the victim \u201cmay have been involved in a confrontation with the offender or offenders in the reserve carpark shortly before it occurred\u201d.<\/p>\n
Police have also sought to clarify there is no evidence linking the incident to recent shootings in Altona on August 16 and Borrack Square Shopping Centre on August 21.<\/p>\n
