<\/p>\nA light plane spent just seven minutes in the air before crashing into a paddock southwest of Brisbane, killing the two people on board. <\/p>\n
Emergency services received multiple triple-0 calls when the Beech A36 Bonanza went down on a property at Stockleigh just after 11am on Monday. <\/p>\n
A 56 year old and a 23 year old woman, both from Ascot in Brisbane\u2019s inner north, were on board. <\/p>\n
Flight radar showed the aircraft was airborne for about seven minutes after taking off from Archerfield Airport. It briefly reached an altitude of 1000 feet (300m) before starting to descend. <\/p>\n

The impact sparked a fire<\/a> which quickly spread over an area the size of three soccer fields. <\/p>\n Twelve fire crews attended and had the flames under control in an hour. <\/p>\n The aircraft was registered to charter and rental company Telford Aviation, which is based at Teneriffe in inner Brisbane. <\/p>\n Its last known flight was on July 31 from Charleville to Brisbane. <\/p>\n Queensland police chief superintendent Mel Adams said first responders were met with a \u201cconfronting\u201d scene and were unable to reach the victims as the aircraft was on fire. <\/p>\n She said the site had been declared \u201can active crime scene\u201d and urged people to stay away.<\/p>\n \u201cThat will run till at least tomorrow, and we will revise that in the morning,\u201d said Supt Adams. <\/p>\n \u201cOur care at the moment is to our emergency service responders and of course the family when we can make contact with them.\u201d <\/p>\n She called for any witnesses to contact police \u201cas a matter of priority\u201d given they had little information to go on. <\/p>\n \u201cWhat happened when the aircraft was in the air, we have no information at this time,\u201d said Supt Adams. <\/p>\n \u201cAt this really early stage, I can\u2019t comment on the persons on board.\u201d <\/p>\n The Australian Transport Safety Bureau <\/a>has also launched an investigation, sending three experts from its Brisbane office to the site. <\/p>\n It was expected they would recover any aircraft components of interest for further examination at the ATSB\u2019s facilities in Canberra. <\/p>\n The ATSB asked that anyone with video footage of the accident flight to make contact via the bureau\u2019s website \u201cat the earliest opportunity\u201d. <\/p>\n A preliminary report detailing factual information about the circumstances of the crash flight was expected in about eight weeks. <\/p>\n Robyn Ironside is The Australian’s aviation writer, and has twice been recognised by the Australasian Aviation Press Club (in 2020 and 2023) as the best aviation journalist.
