Just weeks before a light plane crash south of Brisbane claimed the lives of businessman and pilot Ian Campbell and his daughter Hannah, Mr Campbell and his wife gave an interview reflecting on their love of flying.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old Barambah Organics founder and Hannah, 23, were killed when the six-seater Beechcraft Bonanza they were travelling in crashed into a field on Musch Rd at Stockleigh shortly after takeoff on Monday.<\/p>\n

Mr Campbell was widely known as a fourth-generation dairy farmer and the co-founder of Australian organic dairy brand Barambah Organics, which he launched with his wife Jane in 2002. But those close to the family also knew aviation was central to their lives.<\/p>\n

In an interview published by the Goondiwindi Argus in July, the couple spoke about the role flying had played in their 27 years together.<\/p>\n

They completed their pilot training on their honeymoon in 1999 and built much of their life around the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just really exciting getting up in the air, even if you\u2019re just checking paddocks,\u201d Jane said in the interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love seeing how different the country looks from above, from Beardmore Dam to the Dumaresq and Maranoa rivers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re probably adrenaline junkies. Flying has been a big part of our married life from the very beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Campbell was an experienced pilot who competed in the 2025 Outback Air Race to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.<\/p>\n

Flying was also part of everyday life for the family, with properties at Goondiwindi, St George and Raleigh on the NSW Mid North Coast that Mr Campbell regularly travelled between by air.<\/p>\n

Alongside their farming interests, the couple ran Manana Pastoral near Goondiwindi on the Queensland border, producing extra virgin olive oil, grass-fed beef and lamb. <\/p>\n

They were passionate supporters of sustainable agriculture and had been working towards making the property carbon neutral.<\/p>\n

Hannah, who also shared her family\u2019s commitment to regional causes, recently joined her father in Trek4RFDS, trekking the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.<\/p>\n

The Royal Flying Doctor Service paid tribute to both father and daughter, remembering the impact they had on regional communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIan\u2019s spirit was one of warmth, generosity and genuine care for others \u2013 for the regional, rural and remote communities the RFDS serves and for the people fortunate enough to know him,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cHannah shared that same spirit \u2026 their contribution to the RFDS and to regional Queenslanders shall not be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crash happened just after 11am on Monday and sparked a grass fire. Emergency crews found both occupants dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Logan District Chief Superintendent Mel Adams said investigators were still working to establish exactly what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was quite a confronting scene for our first responders, and it\u2019s only very early in these investigations and we\u2019re still working our way through the intricacies of that investigation with our colleagues at the ATSB,\u201d Superintendent Adams said.<\/p>\n

She urged anyone who saw or heard the plane in the air over Stockleigh or Chambers Flat, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.<\/p>\n

Flight data indicates the aircraft took off from Archerfield and crashed less than 20 minutes later. <\/p>\n

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has sent investigators to the scene and is examining the wreckage as it works to determine the cause.<\/p>\n
