Police have released new images of suspects in their renewed probe of two grisly cold case murders that have baffled investigators for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n
The disappearance and suspected murder of 45-year-old Iain Stewart at Tweed Heads remains a mystery.<\/p>\n
So too does the death of 67-year-old Frederick Hugh Rosson, known as Slim Johnson, who was shot dead at Mount Nathan.<\/p>\n
Investigators in NSW and Queensland have offered a combined $1m reward to anybody who provides information that finally cracks the case \u2013 but it remains unresolved.<\/p>\n
Now, computer-generated images of two people believed to be linked with the case may provide the breakthrough officers are looking for.<\/p>\n
The images are based on descriptions given in witness accounts in 2002 and follow information about their identities gathered during a public appeal two years ago.<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Scott Chapman, who is leading the investigation, said the images were being made public in the hope of sparking new information to arrive.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwenty-four years have passed and relationships and loyalties change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople who may once have been afraid to speak may no longer feel that way.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is never too late to come forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
The $1m reward would be payable for information that results in a conviction of anybody linked with the deaths of Mr Hogg and Mr Rosson.<\/p>\n
Mr Hogg was first reported missing on March 12, 2002, after he failed to show up to work at a liquor store in Burleigh the day before.<\/p>\n
He was last seen in the late afternoon of March 10 and spoke to his mother on the phone at 6pm that evening.<\/p>\n
His car, a red Toyota Celica with the rego number 861 GBW was parked near the Volunteer Marine Boat pontoon in Coral Street, Tweed Heads.<\/p>\n
Police received reports of witnesses seeing a flash and hearing a loud bang in the area, with the belief that his body was dumped into the Tweed River \u2013 but it has never been found.<\/p>\n
Four days after Mr Hogg\u2019s last sighting, Mr Rosson was shot dead at his home in Pademelon Pass, Mount Nathan. <\/p>\n
Witnesses following Mr Rosson\u2019s death have told police they spotted two men driving a car matching the exact description of Mr Hogg\u2019s red Celica.<\/p>\n
Police do not believe either victim to be known to one another, or to be involved in any criminal activity.<\/p>\n
