{"id":92147,"date":"2026-09-09T20:19:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T20:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/92147\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T20:19:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T20:19:20","slug":"guzman-y-gomez-targets-joondalup-drive-for-new-2-3-million-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/92147\/","title":{"rendered":"Guzman y Gomez targets Joondalup Drive for new $2.3 million restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Mexican fast-food chain Guzman y Gomez could soon be setting up another shop in Perth\u2019s north, with plans lodged for a new drive-through restaurant in Edgewater.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The proposed outlet is planned for a site currently used as carparking along Joondalup Drive next to a Shell petrol station and in front of Revo Fitness Gym.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Plans for the development, which is valued at $2.3 million, have been lodged with the City of Joondalup and are currently out for public consultation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Up to 42 existing carparking bays would need to be removed to make way for the outlet, which would have a dual-lane drive-through and internal and alfresco dining areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The proposed single-storey 312sqm restaurant would be built in an area zoned for higher-density development.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/db382d94e4fc37f38903fc507f1d859491872e46.jpg\" alt=\"A concept image of the proposed Guzman y Gomez Edgewater restaurant.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconA concept image of the proposed Guzman y Gomez Edgewater restaurant. Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The site is less than 250m from Edgewater train station and is within the Joondalup Activity Centre Plan area, which sets a minimum building height of 20.5m with no maximum height.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The restaurant would stand just 7.2m high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Urban planners acting on behalf of the applicant, property investment firm AsheMorgan, believe that despite the site\u2019s higher-density zoning and planning designation, the proposed restaurant would be an appropriate interim use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe proposed Guzman y Gomez development represents an appropriate and orderly infill development that activates an underutilised site, enhances the range of services available within the Joondalup Gate precinct, provides employment opportunities and supports the ongoing function of the Joondalup strategic metropolitan centre,\u201d urban planners said in the development application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWhile the Joondalup activity centre plan identifies a long\u2011term aspiration for higher\u2011density mixed\u2011use development within the Joondalup edge precinct, the proposed development represents an appropriate interim use that responds to the prevailing built form, current market conditions and the existing commercial role of the precinct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/3d08a4a355a7a89e7959a0e622026c507a461428-16x9-x0y216w605h340.jpg\" alt=\"The proposed location of the Guzman Y Gomez Edgewater restaurant.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconThe proposed location of the Guzman Y Gomez Edgewater restaurant.
