Good Sammy Enterprises has been selected to manage the collection and processing of eligible drink bottles from eight sporting and entertainment facilities across Perth under a new partnership with VenuesWest.<\/p>\n

Under the new two-year agreement, Good Sammy employees living with disabilities will collect, sort and process the containers, giving them paid employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The facilities covered by the agreement include Arena Joondalup, the Bendat Basketball Centre in Floreat, the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, Gold Netball Centre in Jolimont, Perth HPC in Mt Claremont, the SpeedDome in Middle Swan, the Sam Kerr Football Centre and the WA Athletics Stadium.<\/p>\n

Good Sammy chief executive Kane Blackman said the non-profit group was proud to partner with VenuesWest as the initiative would help sustain jobs, build workplace skills and create pathways to greater economic participation and social inclusion for people living with disability.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy choosing Good Sammy, jobs for people with disability are created, driving the trucks, counting the containers and processing the 10c refunds, all while delivering a quality and reliable service to venue managers,\u201d Mr Blackman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a win-win for Good Sammy and VenuesWest, and consistent with the social enterprise objectives of the scheme and the disability employment goals of VenuesWest and the WA State Government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other major facilities managed by VenuesWest, such as RAC Arena and Optus Stadium, will continue to participate in the scheme under separate partnerships.<\/p>\n

Since joining the Containers for Change scheme in 2020, VenuesWest said it has diverted more than 470,000 containers from landfill, raising almost $47,000 for its community partners.<\/p>\n

VenuesWest CEO Janis Carren said the new partnership would create positive outcomes for everyone involved in the initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we continue to welcome more visitors through major sport and entertainment events across our venues, VenuesWest is pleased to have a strong partner in Good Sammy to help us achieve our sustainability objectives,\u201d Ms Carren said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe partnership supports the objectives of our environmental sustainability strategy by reducing waste, improving resource recovery and supporting sustainable outcomes across our venue portfolio.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since its launch in 2020, more than 5.54 billion containers have been returned through the scheme, which gives people a 10c refund for eligible beverage containers.<\/p>\n

From July 1, 2026, almost all beverage containers between 150mL and 3L became eligible for the program, with wine and spirit bottles, cordial bottles and large juice containers now included.<\/p>\n

Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said the scheme was delivering significant environmental benefits and the partnership between VenuesWest and Good Sammy highlighted its broader value.<\/p>\n

\u201cContainers for Change has become one of WA\u2019s most successful environmental initiatives, diverting billions of containers from landfill and delivering lasting benefits for communities across the State,\u201d Mr Swinbourn said.<\/p>\n
