A Perth man allegedly raped and assaulted several women with whom he was involved in intimate relationships, a Western Australia court has heard on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Benjamin Nathaniel Bruce, 26, was accused of offending against “multiple women over many years” when the alleged victims “made abundantly clear” they were not interested in the acts he wanted to do, Prosecutor Adam Ebell told the District Court on the first day of the trial.<\/p>\n

Mr Bruce is on trial for dozens of charges, including sexual penetration without consent, indecent assault, and acts or omissions causing bodily harm.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said it was also alleged Mr Bruce punched, kicked, and threw things at the women and applied pressure to their necks.<\/p>\n

None of this was “foreplay gone wrong”, Mr Ebell added.<\/p>\n

Alleged coercive control<\/p>\n

Mr Ebell told the court Mr Bruce had a tendency or propensity to act violently against women with whom he was in an intimate relationship.<\/p>\n

He said he exhibited coercive control.<\/p>\n

One woman, the court heard, was punched on the nose, choked and on one occasion, held upside down.<\/p>\n

She also suffered bruising from being handled roughly during sex, which she did not consent to, the court was told.<\/p>\n

‘It’s just the way I grew up’<\/p>\n

The prosecutor also said another alleged victim would say Mr Bruce became violent during sex and slapped her on the face without consent.<\/p>\n

The court heard Mr Bruce once pulled the woman by the hair into a bedroom and squeezed her throat.<\/p>\n

The court was told he would apologise to his alleged victims afterwards, presenting them with strawberries.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t want to do that, it’s just the way I grew up,” Mr Bruce allegedly told one victim.<\/p>\n
