« Cela a été très dur », a confié Vanessa, passagère partie à Dubaï avec un groupe de plusieurs personnes, et qui s’est battue pour rapatrier le groupe ensemble. « On a réussi à tenir le coup tous ensemble. La meilleure solution était de partir », a-t-elle ajouté.

Le SPF Affaires étrangères était également représenté dans le hall des arrivées à Zaventem. « On est très contents qu’ils (les rapatriés, NDLR) puissent rentrer chez eux et voir leurs proches », a déclaré Pierre Steverlynck, porte-parole du ministère des affaires étrangères. « Ce ne fut pas facile. Cela fait une semaine que les Affaires étrangères, avec nos diplomates et nos ambassades sur place, travaillaient d’arrache-pied pour faire revenir les Belges qui le souhaitent. »

Ce travail du ministère des affaires étrangères était également salué par plusieurs personnes interrogées. « Les affaires étrangères ont fait un sacré boulot. Ils ont tout organisé en quelques jours », a expliqué Pascal, passager rapatrié depuis Dubaï. « On a vraiment été rassurés. Je les remercie pour leur professionnalisme. Si je devais avoir à nouveau un problème à l’étranger, je sais quoi faire: j’appelle les affaires étrangères. »

Enfin, un vol charter a également été affrété par Cyprus Airways. Cet avion permettra de transporter environ 180 personnes de Dubaï à Zaventem, où il atterrira vers 21h30 dimanche soir. Une escale technique sera effectuée à Chypre.

Les horaires de départ et d’atterrissage de tous ces vols sont approximatifs. Des retards de deux à cinq heures sont à prévoir pour ce type d’opérations, a précisé Pierre Stervlynck, porte-parole du ministère des Affaires étrangères.
