Om je werkweek goed te starten, elke maandag een tof wetenschappelijk of technisch beeld op onze site. Deze keer: microplastic zichtbaar gemaakt. <\/p>\n

Microscopisch kleine plastic deeltjes zijn door onderzoekers teruggevonden in ons bloed<\/a>, in onze longen<\/a> en in de placenta<\/a>. Wat dit precies betekent voor onze gezondheid, is nog onduidelijk.<\/p>\n

Om microplastics in het lichaam op te sporen, gebruiken wetenschappers nu vaak nog invasieve technieken, waarbij ze weefsel\u00ad of bloedmonsters moeten afnemen. Maar twee Britse biomedici hebben onlangs een niet\u00ad-invasieve methode ontwikkeld. Hierbij vuren ze korte laserpulsen op weefsel af. Als reactie hierop zenden pigmenten in microplastics geluidsgolven uit, die speciale detectoren kunnen opvangen. Op deze manier hebben de biomedici microplastics zichtbaar gemaakt in een levende muis. Op deze verrassend mooie foto te zien als een groene drab.<\/p>\n
