Following conversations with the defense ministers of Belgium and Spain, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Belgium is allocating EUR 1 billion in defense aid to Ukraine this year and confirmed its intention to provide additional F-16 fighter jets, while Spain is also providing EUR 1 billion in support of Ukraine.
“I have held discussions with the Defense Ministers of Belgium, Theo Francken, and Spain, Margarita Robles. We coordinated key areas of cooperation – strengthening air defense, developing drone capabilities, and the ‘Czech initiative’ to provide the front with long-range artillery,” reads a message posted on Telegram on Monday evening.
According to him, Belgium is allocating EUR 1 billion in defense aid to Ukraine this year and has confirmed its intention to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets, as well as ensure the supply of spare parts for existing aircraft.
Spain is also providing EUR 1 billion in support for Ukraine in 2026. During the talks, the parties focused on developing defense cooperation, particularly within the framework of the European SAFE mechanism. Ukraine offered the opportunity to test Spanish drones in combat conditions.
“We are ready to offer a list of manufacturers that could establish cooperation with Spanish companies. For its part, Ukraine has also offered the opportunity to test Spanish drones in combat conditions,” Fedorov emphasized.
