Former Bafana Bafana attacker Cassius Mailula is facing an uncertain future at Belgian side KV Kortrijk.
Mailula is currently on loan at Kortrijk from Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Toronto FC.
However, to date, he has found the going tough with just three appearances to his name since his arrival.
Now, with Kortrijk set to return to top flight football following their promotion, major changes to the squad are expected.
And Mailula could be affected given his lack of regular game time so far this season.
His situation became worse and personally affected him after losing his brother in February this year.
Mailula’s agent, Karabo Tshabuse of P Management told SABC Sport that the player’s future with Kortrijk is yet to be discussed.
SOUTH AFRICANS ABROAD: MAILULA COULD LEAVE KV KORTRIJK
“The two clubs are still to review, given that the loan deal only ends at the end of the season,” said Tshabuse.
REGRETS OR NO REGRETS?
Mailula was, at one stage, one of the finest talents on the African continent while he was still with Sundowns.
He left the Brazilians for Toronto FC, and at the time, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos was very critical of the move.
Broos was later vindicated as Mailula struggled in his first season before being loaned out to Wydad Athletic Club.
At 24, Mailula should be playing regularly, and perhaps there is an element of regret on his part given that he was on the rise whilst on the books of Sundowns.
Furthermore, the situation is regretful in the sense that Bafana Bafana are going to the FIFA World Cup in June.
