A train struck a school bus Tuesday morning in the town of Buggenhout, Belgium, and authorities are reporting multiple casualties. The accident occurred at a level crossing, and international media are citing sources indicating that the collision resulted in several deaths.

Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin posted on X that he learned “with great dismay” of the tragic accident in Buggenhout, where a school bus was struck by a train.

“My thoughts go out to the victims and their loved ones. I wish the injured much strength,” the Belgian minister wrote.

According to the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, the vehicle was carrying seven students and two adults. One of the adults was the driver, and the other was supervising the children.
