Integrated Terminal Scheduler Goes Live at PSA Antwerp's Europa Terminal - News and Statistics

INFORM and PSA Antwerp have successfully implemented the Integrated Terminal Scheduler (ITS) at Europa Terminal, according to a statement released on May 28, 2026. The software went live in March 2026 as part of a broader complex modernization project at the terminal.

The ITS is designed to manage the entire horizontal transport chain dynamically, coordinating Automated Stacking Cranes, Straddle Carriers, and Quay Cranes. The system aims to support full operational capacity without reducing service levels during the transformation.

INFORM’s solution was chosen for the Europa Terminal upgrade, which is part of Project Emerald—a collaboration between PSA Antwerp and Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The software optimizes move schedules for the three equipment types throughout all phases of the modernization and beyond.

The project faces unique challenges because sections of the terminal are periodically taken offline for reconfiguration. This requires hybrid operations that maintain full service levels. Automated Stacking Cranes were introduced to the terminal for the first time, with the initial installation occurring in summer 2024. INFORM’s system addresses the complexity of this brownfield modernization while keeping operations efficient.

The ITS provides operational benefits through real-time optimization of transport processes across the entire terminal. It dynamically synchronizes cranes and Straddle Carriers to optimize yard movements and equipment scheduling, helping prevent bottlenecks, reduce unproductive equipment movements, and minimize idle times.

A control room interface from INFORM offers operational transparency and management by exception, giving staff full visibility and control. The system supports hybrid operations, allowing optimized handling even when parts of the terminal are under refurbishment.

The phased rollout began in March 2026 with optimization for Straddle Carriers and Automated Stacking Cranes. Quay Crane integration will follow later in 2026, after the newly delivered Dual Hoist Quay Cranes are fully commissioned. INFORM plans to continue refining ITS algorithms using operational data from current deployments to further improve performance.
