Euronext-listed UCB, a Belgium-based global biopharmaceutical company, has acquired Neurona Therapeutics, a US-based clinical-stage biotherapeutics company developing regenerative cell therapies, for a total transaction valued of up to US$1.15bn consisting of a US$650m upfront payment plus up to US$500m in potential future milestone payments.

The transaction, which includes Neurona’s lead asset rezanecel – an investigational drug under phase l/ll investigation for drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy – adds to UCB’s epilepsy portfolio and accelerates UCB’s entry into next-generation disease-modifying therapies and cell therapies.
