Last year, over 600 injuries related to electric scooter accidents were recorded, which is a 25% increase from previous figures. Additionally, scooters left unmanaged on sidewalks create obstacles for pedestrians and cause dissatisfaction among local residents.
Thus, Brussels has joined a number of major European cities, such as Paris, Madrid, and Prague, which have already implemented strict measures to limit the operation of sharing services.
Similar problems are observed in Bishkek, where the possibility of banning shared electric scooters is being discussed due to the increase in incidents. According to the Traffic Safety Department of the Bishkek City Police, last year there were 93 accidents involving electric scooters and other personal mobility devices in the capital, resulting in 100 injuries, with one case ending in a fatality. Local medical institutions report an increase in patients with serious injuries, while city residents complain about blocked sidewalks and pathways due to abandoned scooters.
