Belgium has issued entry permits to a Taliban team for a migration conference in Brussels, marking the initial instance of Taliban members joining a European Union-hosted gathering since the group assumed authority in Afghanistan in 2021.

Yet, the Belgian administration confirmed it authorized five visas for members of the delegation following security reviews that uncovered no indication that these people represented a danger. The visas are severely constrained, allowing access solely to Belgium, not the entire Schengen zone, and remain effective for just one day.
