Belgium secured a place in the World Cup knockout stage after defeating New Zealand 5-1 in Vancouver on Friday, according to a report from Euronews. The victory lifted Belgium to the top of Group G, guaranteeing their progression to the round of 32.

Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard scored twice, with additional goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Alexis Saelemaekers. The result came after Belgium had drawn their first two group matches, a 1-1 tie against Egypt in Seattle and a goalless draw with Iran.

New Zealand exited the tournament with only one point from their group campaign. Iran now faces an uncertain wait to learn if they will advance, following a 1-1 draw with Egypt in their final group game. Egypt finished as Group G runners-up and are scheduled to play Australia in Dallas.

In other matches on Friday, Uruguay was eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Spain in Guadalajara. Alex Baena scored the winning goal for Spain, who finished top of Group H and will face the runner-up of Group J in Los Angeles, likely Austria or Algeria. France maintained a perfect tournament record by beating Norway 4-1, finishing top of Group I. Norway and Senegal also qualified from that group. France will play Sweden at MetLife Stadium in the round of 32, while Norway will face the Ivory Coast.

Belgium will next play a third-place finisher from one of groups A, E, H, I, or J in Seattle next week.
