State-run Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) will launch direct, scheduled flights connecting Baku with the Belgian capital, Brussels, starting in May, the carrier announced on Wednesday.
The expansion is part of the airline’s broader strategy to boost connectivity to major European political and economic hubs, News.Az reports, citing the company.
The first flight on the Baku-Brussels-Baku route is scheduled for May 8, 2027. AZAL plans to operate the service four times a week, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Baku has been progressively expanding its air transit links with Western Europe, aiming to position itself as a key regional transit hub between Europe and Asia. Brussels houses the headquarters of both the European Union and NATO, making the direct link significant for diplomatic and corporate travel, alongside tourism.
The airline noted that ticket sales for the new route have already opened across its digital platforms and accredited agencies.
