An air raid interrupted the usual diplomatic setting, but the meeting delivered a new pledge to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held talks with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation Maxime Prévot in a shelter at the Foreign Ministry in Kyiv. The meeting was moved to a protected facility because of an air raid alert.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the alert sounded immediately before the scheduled talks. Since the start of the night, it was already the sixth air raid alert for Kyiv.

As Russian drones approached Ukraine’s capital, the diplomats held talks in the Foreign Ministry’s shelter – the harsh reality of wartime diplomacy.

Belgium invests in Ukraine’s reconstruction

During his stay in Kyiv, Maxime Prévot also announced an investment by Belgian investment company BIO Invest. The company will contribute $6 million to the Rebuild Ukraine Fund (REBUF), a private equity fund.

The funds are intended to support investment projects related to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
