Editors traded their usual towering post-punk sound for something far more intimate during this acoustic showcase for Studio Brussel at the Academiezaal in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, on March 14, 2018. With Tom Smith’s unmistakable baritone pushed to the front, the band reworked songs including “Violence,” “Papillon,” “Formaldehyde,” “Munich,” “Magazine,” “Cold,” “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors,” “Nothing,” “A Ton of Love,” “No Sound But the Wind” and “Blood.” Stripped of much of their usual scale and electronics, the songs reveal just how much tension, melancholy and melody sit underneath Editors’ sound, while the small-room setting gives some of their biggest tracks an entirely different weight.
