New sleeper train service to launch in September.
A new night train connecting Milan to Brussels and Amsterdam will launch on 9 September 2026, the Dutch-Belgian railway operator European Sleeper has announced.
The service will feature two separate departures, one from Amsterdam and one from Brussels, with the two trains then joining in Cologne in Germany to continue southward through Switzerland and into Italy.
Trains will run three times a week, with stops in Bern and Brig in Switzerland, and Domodossola and Stresa in Italy, stopping on the shores of Lago Maggiore before arriving in Milan.
Departures from Amsterdam and Brussels are scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, arriving in Switzerland and Milan the following morning. The return service from Milan will opera on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights.
Tickets will go on sale on 17 March 2026 via the European Sleeper website, with one-way fares starting from €49.99 per person.
Travel options include budget, classic and comfort class, while there will also be women-only compartments.
Separately, Italy’s state railway operator FS Group is to launch new high-speed rail links between Germany and Austria this year, in collaboration with German railway company Deutsche Bahn and Austrian railway operator ÖBB.
The Milan-Munich route will have a travel time of six and a half hours while the Rome-Munich journey is set to take eight and a half hours. Both routes stop in Innsbruck, Austria.
