Some terrific midweek racing on Wednesday in Italy and Belgium.
Tom Pidcock took his second dub of the year at Milano-Torino. As always, the race came down to the Colli di Superga. Tobias Halland Johannessen finished second, with Primož Roglič taking third, while Giulio Pellizzari and Cian Uijtdebroeks rounded out the top five.
The 173.3 km race began with a six-man break including Adrien Maire, Patrick Konrad, and Valentin Ferron, who held a slim lead over the peloton through the flat opening. But it was clear they wouldn’t be allowed to get too far.
Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe set the pace on the climbs, with Roglič launching an early attack. Movistar then drove the tempo for Uijtdebroeks, splitting the race on the Superga circuits.
With a few kilometres left, five riders went clear. Uijtdebroeks and Roglic tried to get away a few times, but Pidcock responded with a deadly surge. That move by the multiple world champ left them in the dust. (Canadian fans may find themselves rooting more and more for Uijtdebroeks, given his world champion girlfriend is from Sherbrooke.)
Johannessen came in for second, and Roglic completed the podium.
Derek Gee-West was there, but in more of a helper role for his Lidl-Trek team, he finished over 8 minutes back in 118th. Lots more season for the Canadian champ.
Kopecky back at Nokere Koerse
Lotte Kopecky returned to winning ways at the Nokere Koerse, taking her third victory ahead of Charlotte Kool and Lara Gillespie. A five-rider break marked the early action, but repeated attacks and a quick bunch brought everyone back together. I
In the finale, Ilse Pluimers launched a nice solo move, briefly opening a small gap, only to be caught in the last kilometre.
In the uphill sprint, Kopecky timed her effort perfectly. Pluimers’ move added a little bit of last-minute drama, but Kopecky was cool as a komkommer. Might the multiple world champion do the same at Sanremo Donne?
Kopecky takes it! 🚀

There were several Canucks racing. Top finisher was Alison Jackson (St Michel – Preference Home – Auber93). She finished just outside the top-10 in 13th. Maggie Coles-Lyster (Human Powered Health) was 55th, and Emilie Fortin (Minimax Cycling Team) was 77th.
