Brussels introduced the Tram Experience, turning a historic streetcar into a mobile gourmet restaurant. The concept combines urban sightseeing with multi-course meals on board for events and private groups.
The Tram Experience offers up to 34 seats in a refurbished PCC streetcar operated by STIB/MIVB. Guests travel for about two and a half hours along scenic routes past landmarks such as the Atomium and the Expo site while enjoying a six- or seven-course menu prepared by Michelin and high-end chefs. Lighting, service and menu timing are designed to match the route, creating a staged dining experience that integrates the cityscape into the gastronomic journey. Packages for full charters and private events include hostesses, customized menus and additional services such as transfers.
Culinary mobility and sustainable urban innovation
The initiative began in 2012 as part of Brussels’ “Brusselicious” gourmet year and demonstrates how public transport infrastructure can be repurposed as a high-end experience space. Modernized streetcars feature contemporary interiors with fixed tables, integrated glass elements and panoramic windows. The project emphasizes sustainable mobility, using the electric tram network to deliver low-emission cultural and culinary experiences. Over the years, the Tram Experience has evolved into a branded, dynamic format, offering networking and private event opportunities while highlighting Brussels as a city where urban infrastructure, gastronomy and design intersect.
