The Belgian Royal Palace confirmed that Elisabeth will attend her graduation ceremonies on May 27 and 28, with King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in attendance, supporting their daughter in one of the most significant moments of her life.
A path for a future Queen
Elisabeth began her postgraduate studies in September 2024, arriving in Boston after completing her undergraduate degree in History and Politics at Oxford University. She was selected for a Fulbright Honorary Award, a prestigious international educational exchange program. It’s a distinction that shows just how seriously Elisabeth has pursued her academic education.
Over the course of the two-year program, Elisabeth developed skills in economics, ethics, financial management, negotiation, policy design and execution, quantitative analysis, and applied history. It’s a curriculum tailor-made for a politician and leader.

According to the Belgian press, Elisabeth adapted quickly to life at Harvard, one of the world’s most prestigious campuses, integrating into her studies and embracing her career with the openness that has come to define her. She reportedly went by the nickname Lizzie.
Navigating unexpected obstacles
Despite Elisabeth’s intelligence and commitment to her schooling, the road to graduation wasn’t without its complications. Earlier in Trump‘s administration, the government moved to block Harvard from enrolling foreign students, putting into question Elisabeth’s ability to complete her degree.
Ultimately, her residency permit, along with those of other Belgian students, was renewed, allowing her to finish the program on time and in the school of her choosing.

What’s next for the Duchess of Brabant?
Elisabeth‘s future has not been officially announced, but the completion of her master’s degree offers a clear path forward.
Her prestigious education aligns with her move towards greater responsibilities in her institution. Having completed the necessary military training, acquired degrees from two of the world’s elite universities, and a fluency in languages like Dutch, French, German, and English, she enters the next phase of her life with a foundation that few monarchs and people in the world can rival.
