WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 35-year-old Antwerp man is facing drug, weapon and attempted robbery charges after a traffic stop in the City of Watertown.

The Watertown Police Department arrested John Forney and charged him with attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Authorities stopped Forney around 3:20 a.m. after they detected a speeding vehicle on Huntington Street.

According to police, the driver was seen allegedly throwing a container out the window. Police stated that methamphetamine was allegedly found in the continer.

The driver, John Forney, was stopped on North Michigan Avenue. During the subsequent search, city police allegedly found four grams of fentanyl and a wrist-brace style slingshot.

Forney was also wanted in connection with an attempted robbery that happened on February 1 on LeRay Street. He was allegedly armed with a club and attempted to steal a wallet while an accomplice struck the other person with a folding knife.

A passenger, 35-year-old Holly Forney of Antwerp, was also charged with drug and weapon possession. Holly Forney is the sister-in-law of John.

She was released while John Forney is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bail.
