WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A traffic stop in Watertown ended with the arrest of an Antwerp man on drug, weapon and attempted robbery charges.
City police said they spotted a speeding vehicle on Huntington Street at around 3:20 a.m.
As the officer followed it, the driver was allegedly seen throwing a container out the window. Police said they later learned that methamphetamine was in the container.
The driver, 35-year-old John Forney, was stopped on North Michigan Avenue, where police said they found him in possession of 4 grams of fentanyl and a wrist-brace style slingshot.
Forney was also wanted in connection with an attempted robbery that happened at 631 LeRay Street in Watertown on February 1.
Police allege he was armed with a club and tried to steal a wallet from a person while an accomplice struck the person with a folding knife.
He was charged with attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
A passenger in his vehicle, his sister-in-law, 35-year-old Holly Forney of Antwerp, was also charged with drug and weapon possession.
She was released.
John Forney is being held without bail in the Jefferson County jail.
