More than 100 Ukrainians and international supporters took part, turning a symbolic route through the Belgian capital into practical help for defenders.
In Brussels, on Ukraine’s State Flag Day, a charity Run for Ukraine was held. Funds were raised during the event for portable charging devices needed by Ukrainian air defence units.
The event was organised by the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium, the Mission of Ukraine to the European Union, and the civic organisations UVRC and European Resolve. More than 100 people – Ukrainians and foreigners alike – joined the charity run in support of those defending Ukraine’s skies.
Distances and Route of the Run in Brussels
Participants could choose between 5- and 8-kilometre distances. The run started at Solidarity Square, opposite the European Parliament. The runners finished at Beguinage Square in the centre of the Belgian capital.
Events for Flag Day and the Anniversary of Independence
After the finish, a cultural programme dedicated to State Flag Day and the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence continued at Beguinage Square. It brought together members of the Ukrainian community, Belgian society, and friends of Ukraine.
Before the start, a 30-metre Ukrainian flag was unfurled at Solidarity Square. European officials and Ukrainian diplomats took part in the event, including Nicolae Ștefănuță, Michael McGrath, and Oksana Diakun.
The charity Run for Ukraine combined a sporting initiative, support for Ukrainian air defence, and the commemoration of important Ukrainian national dates in Brussels.
