Following an alleged attack by a knife-wielding man in Belgium, an Alabama woman said she has been in contact with federal officials regarding the incident.
In a Facebook post Saturday, Amanda Hardy said she received a call from the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, who apologized to her on behalf of President Donald Trump.
“[White] listened, apologized on behalf of the Embassy and on behalf of the President, and he took immediate action to change policies at the Belgium Embassy so that no other American family is left in that position,” Hardy said.
“We could not have asked for more. Unfortunately, I did learn that, although the assailant was detained while we were there, he was almost immediately released by Belgium authorities.”
Hardy previously told WSFA that she, her friend Courtney Sucher and their two daughters were attacked on Feb. 1 on a train in brussels.
In a video shared on social media, one can hear a male voice in accented English say, “Which country are you from?…America…United States…New York…Do you like ICE?”
Hardy said that that he then drew an 18-inch knife wrapped in a blue scarf.
The group proceeded to flee the train whole yelling for help as the man can be heard on video continuing to threaten them.
Hardy said it took them about three minutes to exit the train.
She also stated she was in correspondence with U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s, R-Ala, office.
“I also spoke with Tommy Tuberville’s office today – his staff is wonderful,” Hardy said.
“His office took actions to demand accountability so that our concerns were not dismissed or overlooked.”
