Essyla performed \u201cDancing on the Ice\u201d live for the first time last night during the semi-final of The Voice Belgique on La Une. Essyla previously competed on the ninth season of The Voice Belgique in 2021. She finished second behind J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Makiese, who went on to represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.<\/p>\n
In the years that RTBF selects the Belgian representative,\u00a0The Voice Belgique\u00a0has been used as the platform for the first live performance of their Eurovision Song Contest entry.<\/p>\n
Essyla was internally selected by RTBF to represent Belgium at the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. She will perform \u201cDancing on the Ice\u201d in slot 11 during the first semi-final on May 12. Find out more about Essyla here:<\/p>\n

Belgium was one of the seven nations who participated in the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. To date, the country has won the contest only once in 1986. Sandra Kim won the contest with the song \u201cJ\u2019aime la vie\u201d. Her victory was not without controversy when it emerged that Sandra was just 13 years old, two years younger than the age restriction at the time. In the late 00s, Belgium struggled in the contest, failing to reach the final annually from 2005 until 2010, when Tom Dice finished 6th in the final with 143 points.
