high-level talks in Hungary over the past two days with European Commission leaders, as his government moves to unlock suspended European Union funding and reset relations with Brussels.

In a statement, the Tisza Party leader said he made clear during the discussions that his incoming government would begin work with an unprecedented mandate and responsibility, calling the election result a major opportunity for both Hungary and Europe.

Magyar said restoring access to EU funds would be a top priority, arguing that the resources are essential to restarting the Hungarian economy.

‘EU funding is not charity,’ he said, describing the money as compensation for Hungary’s contributions to the bloc and its role within Europe.

According to the statement, Magyar outlined key commitments of the incoming government during the talks, including anti-corruption measures, Hungary’s accession to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, and restoring the independence of the judiciary, the press and higher education.

He said the new government intends to fully implement those pledges while working to secure the release of EU funds currently frozen over rule-of-law concerns.

Magyar added that detailed technical discussions had begun at the highest professional level, describing them as the first steps in a complex but urgent process.

‘There was broad agreement on the need to begin substantive work to ensure Hungary receives the funds it is entitled to’

While acknowledging that the consequences of the outgoing government’s policies would not disappear overnight, he said the focus was on solutions rather than excuses, and that there was broad agreement on the need to begin substantive work to ensure Hungary receives the funds it is entitled to.

‘The first steps have been taken in the right direction,’ he said.

Magyar also announced that his third foreign trip after taking the oath of office is expected to be to Brussels, where he plans to seek a comprehensive political agreement with EU institutions and member states to accelerate the release of funding for Hungarian citizens and businesses.

‘The Hungarian people made a clear decision that Hungary belongs in Europe,’ Magyar said.

<p
