LIEGE, Belgium (AP) \u2014 Four-time Tour de France winner Tadej Poga\u010dar continued his dominance on Sunday after becoming the first rider this century to earn three straight victories at the Li\u00e8ge\u2013Bastogne\u2013Li\u00e8ge classic cycling race.<\/p>\n
The triumph capped an outstanding run in which Poga\u010dar also won two other \u201cmonuments\u201d of one-day cycling \u2014 Milan-San Remo and Tour of Flanders.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means a lot to win one of the biggest races in cycling again,\u201d the 27-year-old Poga\u010dar said. \u201cI don\u2019t do many races anymore, and thus don\u2019t have many opportunities to win. That means I\u2019m under a lot of pressure on days like today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Slovenian lost to Wout van Aert at Paris-Roubaix earlier this month. The fifth and final Monument race will be the Tour of Lombardy in October.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really happy that we succeeded,\u201d Poga\u010dar said. \u201cI hope we can keep going like this into the summer. We are in a good place right now. I feel good on the bike and during training, and I appreciate the time I spend with my teammates more and more every year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paul Seixas, the 19-year-old French rider, was second to Poga\u010dar on Sunday. Remco Evenepoel finished third.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always race to win, but we know that Poga\u010dar has been utterly dominant these last few years, so just being able to follow him is already something.\u201d Seixas said. \u201cYou have to take things one step at a time, without rushing.\u201d<\/p>\n
FDJ Suez rider Demi Vollering became the first three-time winner of the women’s race.<\/p>\n
The Dutchwoman is one of the most decorated cyclists of her generation.
