{"id":13709,"date":"2026-04-30T20:10:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T20:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/13709\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T20:10:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T20:10:08","slug":"belgium-to-ban-flavored-vapes-from-2028-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/13709\/","title":{"rendered":"Belgium to ban flavored vapes from 2028 \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The measure brings Belgium in line with the Netherlands, which already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/the-netherlands-leads-call-for-eu-to-clamp-down-on-vapes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">restricts<\/a> e-cigarettes to tobacco flavor only. <\/p>\n<p>A Dutch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivm.nl\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-07\/Poster-e-cigarette-flavor-ban.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">study<\/a> by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) suggests the policy has had an impact: Nearly two-fifths of users cut back, while more than one in five quit entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium\u2019s move follows a November 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hgr-css.be\/en\/report\/9863\/electronic-cigarette-flavour-restrictions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recommendation<\/a> from its Superior Health Council to sharply reduce allowed flavors, with youth protection taking priority over adult preferences.<\/p>\n<p>The ban builds on an earlier crackdown. Belgium was the first EU country <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/belgium-ban-disposable-vape-eu-change-tobacco-rule-frank-vandenbroucke\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to outlaw<\/a> disposable vapes at the end of 2024 and tightened rules on where smoking and vaping are allowed, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gezondbelgie.be\/nl\/gezondheidstoestand\/factsheets\/tobacco-control-policies-are-needed-to-change-smoking-trends?highlight=WyJ6aWVrZW53YWdlbnMiLCJpbWFnZSIsImFkdmFudGFnZSIsImhvbWVwYWdlIiwiaHNyLWVuLXNyaC1hZ2VzZXgtMjAxMyIsImltYWdlcyIsImxhbmd1YWdlIiwibGFuZ3VhZ2VzIiwibWFuYWdlIiwibWFuYWdlZCJd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a broader push<\/a> toward a smoke-free generation by 2040. Other EU countries followed suit, with Slovenia already adopting <a href=\"https:\/\/epha.org\/how-slovenia-managed-to-ban-flavours-in-e-cigarettes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a comparable flavor ban<\/a> in May 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium will now notify the European Commission, and aims for the rules to take effect on September 1, 2028.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The measure brings Belgium in line with the Netherlands, which already restricts e-cigarettes to tobacco flavor only.
