The recovery contract was awarded to <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/companies\/profile\/670663\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Multraship Salvage<\/a> and Herbosch-Kiere, who noted the operation was complicated by strong currents, tidal conditions in the Scheldt, and the strategic importance of the waterway.<\/p>\n<p>The Sola Gratia was carrying a load of sand and heading toward Antwerp on the night of April 17-18 when it struck mooring bollards along the riverbank. The master informed responders that the vessel had lost maneuverability, as reported by local news outlet NT. The crew was evacuated without injuries, and the ship came to rest at a depth of 15 meters at low tide.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary work began at the start of the previous week, with crews pumping approximately 1,600 tonnes of sand from the hull. Teams then positioned three sets of heavy steel cables to form hoisting slings for the hull, placed at three points to distribute weight and minimize the risk of the ship breaking apart during the lift.<\/p>\n<p>Two floating cranes, two crane pontoons, tugboats, auxiliary equipment, and specialized divers were deployed for the operation on Sunday. The lift was timed to coincide with slack tide at approximately 1:00 p.m. and continued for several hours. Multraship reports that the vessel is now above water and remains suspended in the sling. While the salvage team had hoped to dewater the hull to restore buoyancy, extensive hull damage has prevented that. The ship will stay in the sling while a decision is made on where to reposition it to clear the waterway.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t1.
