A collision \u200bbetween a train and a school \u2060bus in the Belgian town of Buggenhout on Tuesday morning killed \u2060four people, it was reported.<\/p>\n
The \u2060accident \u200coccurred at arond 8am at \u200ba level-crossing about 1 kilometre from Buggenhout station, which is about 23 kilometres from Brussels.<\/p>\n
It was reported that two teenagers were among those killed. <\/p>\n
RTL TV \u2060cited Transport Minister Jean-Luc Crucke saying the victims \u200balso \u2060included the \u200cbus driver and an adult accompanying the \u200bpupils. Two other people were also severely injured, he added.<\/p>\n
Interior Minister Bernard Quintin said in a post on X that “it is with deep sadness that I learned of the tragic accident that occurred in Buggenhout.” He did not provide further details.<\/p>\n
Police said nine people were in the minibus, according to Belgian news channel VRT, which said the children are pupils at a special needs school.<\/p>\n
It quoted Thomas Baeken of Belgian track operator Infrabel saying: “Footage shows that the barriers were down and the traffic lights were red. We do not know how the accident could have happened.”<\/p>\n
Belgium, where a \u200bdense \u200crailway network criss-crosses towns and villages, \u2060has a history of \u2060accidents at level-crossings.<\/p>\n
