European Union Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Massimo Santoro underscored the growing economic partnership between Europe and the Philippines during the first Belgian Business Gala<\/a>, emphasizing the role of business collaboration in deepening ties between Belgium, the European Union, and the Philippines.<\/p>\n

Speaking before members of the Belgian and Philippine business communities, Santoro described the gathering as a symbol of \u201cbuilding bridges through business\u201d as Belgium and the Philippines celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight\u2019s gathering is a testament to that enduring friendship and to the important role that business plays in bringing our countries closer together,\u201d Santoro said.<\/p>\n

The EU envoy welcomed Belgian business delegates participating in the economic mission to the Philippines, as well as Philippine business partners, sponsors, and representatives from the maritime sector.<\/p>\n

Santoro noted that over the decades, relations between Belgium and the Philippines <\/a>have evolved into a partnership anchored on mutual trust, shared interests, and increasingly strong economic ties.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the broader role of the European Union in supporting Philippine economic growth, pointing out that the EU remains one of the country\u2019s largest trading partners and a major source of foreign direct investments.<\/p>\n

According to Santoro, European companies bring not only capital to the Philippines, but also innovation, sustainability, high standards, and long-term commitments to local development.<\/p>\n

The ambassador also stressed the importance of the ongoing negotiations for a proposed EU-Philippines Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expressing optimism over the progress of discussions between both sides.<\/p>\n

He described the negotiations as \u201cintense\u201d and \u201cconstant,\u201d adding that the process is built on cooperation and mutual trust.<\/p>\n

Santoro said a future EU-Philippines trade agreement would create more opportunities for European, Belgian, and Philippine businesses while contributing to job creation and economic growth in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn many ways, a future EU-Philippines agreement will be a bridge, bringing our economies closer together, facilitating the exchange of goods and services, expertise, investment, and creating new opportunities for businesses on both sides,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The EU envoy encouraged business leaders attending the gala to maximize the opportunity to engage in dialogue, explore partnerships, and strengthen collaborations that could contribute to the next chapter of Belgium-Philippines and EU-Philippines economic relations.<\/p>\n

The Belgian Business Gala gathered diplomats, business executives, investors, and industry leaders to promote stronger commercial ties and investment opportunities between Belgium and the Philippines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Monsi A.
