{"id":20002,"date":"2026-06-09T14:37:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T14:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/20002\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T14:37:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T14:37:13","slug":"apple-and-brussels-blame-each-other-for-delaying-european-union-rollout-of-siri-ai-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/20002\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple and Brussels blame each other for delaying European Union rollout of Siri AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">Apple and the European Union are blaming each other for delaying a rollout of the iPhone maker\u2019s long awaited Siri AI app to European users. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A spokesman for the 27-nation EU\u2019s executive arm on Tuesday disputed Apple\u2019s explanation for why the company can&#8217;t include European users when the app launches later this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cWe indeed need to set the record straight,\u201d European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier said. \u201cThe decision not to roll out Siri AI in the EU is Apple\u2019s and Apple\u2019s only because absolutely nothing in the DMA prohibits Apple from introducing new products in the EU.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Regnier was referring to the Digital Markets Act, a tough EU rule book that aims to stop Big Tech &#8220;gatekeepers&#8221; from locking out rivals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Apple had blamed the DMA after unveiling its upgraded artificial intelligence assistant a day earlier at its annual <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/apple-siri-wwdc-iphone-aa25d07c06d366ec5b62643a1f5b0db9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">developers conference<\/a>. It said in a statement Monday that it wouldn&#8217;t be available for iPhone and iPad users in the EU, and did not provide any timetable. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The DMA requires the biggest tech platforms to give access to rivals on equal terms. But Apple complained that under Brussels&#8217; \u201cextreme interpretation\u201d of the rule book, the company would have to give any virtual assistant \u201cdirect access&#8221; to user data without \u201cessential protections.&#8221; Apple said it designed a solution and a plan to roll it out gradually over 18 months, but the commission rejected its proposals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Regnier had a different version. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cInstead of trying to find a suitable, compliant solution,&#8221; Apple merely asked the commission for a 18-month exemption, he told reporters at a regular briefing in Brussels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cGuess what?
